New Gear: Why it’s Essential for Skiing and Snowboarding

Skiing and snowboarding gear are essential to any rider. But what makes it so vital? You may initially think safety — which is true — but there are several reasons why up to date gear should be priority number one.

Safety

It can’t be stressed enough. As mentioned, prior, safety is key, and you’ll want to keep up with new gear as new gear frequently ads new and improved safety features.  When purchasing ski/boarding wear, looking for fabrics that are water and wind-resistant are essential in keeping safe form the elements. Keep an eye out for wind flaps and shield zippers, snug cuffs at the wrists and ankles, collars that can be tightened up to the chin, and drawstrings that can be adjusted for comfort, but more importantly, to keep wind out. Be sure to buy quality clothing and products.  Extra protection is worth the extra cost.

Fashion/Trend

Most riders want gear that looks good. Many take skiing and snowboarding as a serious hobby and want to establish an identity for themselves when on the slopes. Purchasing some new gear that is modern looking, clean, bright and representative of your style and personality can help make your skiing or snowboarding an even more enjoyable experience.

Warmth

It’s cold up there! New gear makes for a welcome addition to the worn and battle tested outerwear that has been broken in over the years. Also, gear for the slopes doesn’t necessarily have to be exclusive to bulky outerwear (though it is necessary). There are several modern accessories that boarders and skiers use on a regular basis to keep toasty.

Several include:

Hand and feet warmers:

Small packets that are inserted into your ski gloves and ski boots that heat up your hands and feet.

Glove and boot liners:

An alternative to warmers. Lines the gloves and boots and acts as insulation.

Neck Gaiters:

A wrap that keeps your neck toasty! Keeping out the cold wind and snow.

Thermals:

The popular, old standby. Thermal pants and shirts are cozy and provide warmth and comfort underneath your bulky ski equipment.

These are just a few reasons why up to date gear is a necessity for any skier or snowboarder. Stay warm, stay safe, and have fun.
